You're a survivor! This is a word that I really do not like. I know what surviving is and it's really not what I wanted to be.
* Surviving is the sad reality of having a carer watch you getting showered because you're classed as a fall risk.
* Surviving is being so scared to walk on a beach or a forest walk because the ground is so uneven and that fall you had a week ago is constantly playing over and over in your head.
* Surviving is that gut sinking feeling telling your fiance that you're too scared to go up to the town because people keep looking at you walking like a penguin.
* Surviving is feeling like you are walking on stilts because of vertigo your brain injury has given you, TBI my dear friend you're so generous.
* Surviving is constantly being in a battle with the bad ideas in your head while you're lying awake at night.
* Surviving is not leaving the house for weeks on end unless you're taking your dog for a walk which isn't even that far because you can only walk 50 feet before you need to take a seat.
* Surviving is the realisation that you need a medicine organiser in case you forget to take you daily heart medicine and pain relief.
* Surviving is when the thought of your dog being hit by a car is more horrifying than you painting a lorry with your innards.
* Surviving is sitting on a sofa with your counsellor sobbing like a child.
I'm not a Surviving anymore........I'm a Thriving! And that feeling of pride when you overcome everything that holds you back is exactly what I want everyone to experience at least once.
Ps, this was a hard one to type haha. Take care.
Much love TP-PT
